Historical monument of Cannes

Sainte-Marguerite Island

Saint-Honorat Island
This second small island has been home to a monastic community since 1869. These monks now also manage the island as a factory of artisanal liqueur as well as some grape varieties. Its fortress, built in 1073 by Abbé de Lerins, has seven chapels. It was in the 5th century that Honorat chose this island as a place for its isolation from the world, a world he considers too tormented. Since that day, this holy place has become a spiritual retreat for anyone who wishes to consider it as such.
